Political Wire passes along a story from the New York Sun that a "small but influential group of GOP insiders" are urging Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour (R) "to seek the Republican nomination for president in 2008." Apparently, the pro-Barbour chatter is on the rise.

Georgia's Republican Gov. Sonny Perdue, who swept to office on a wave of white outrage over disrespect of the Confederate flag, today signed a bill that would finally repeal discriminatory laws left over from the fight against civil rights in the 1950s and 1960s.

The Texas House today passed a constitutional amendment banning both same-sex marriages and civil unions. The bill was approved by a 101 to 29 vote, barely exceeding the 100 votes necessary to amend the state constitution. The bill next goes to the state senate. If it garners a two-thirds vote there, the amendment will need to be approved by Texas voters.
