Last week marked the sesquicentennial of the attack by John Brown and 21 others on the federal arsenal at Harpers Ferry, West Virginia. Brown was captured, executed, and buried along with 10 men who died in the attack, including one of his sons.

The problem is that Durbin's bill and the House bill are not retroactive. The legislation doesn't require judges to take a second look at any of the sentences of those currently incarcerated for crack possession. This is not fair and it's not justice.
