State and federal lawmakers are now scrambling to implement measures to help safeguard the electoral process.

August 30, 2023 - Common Cause North Carolina launched a statewide town hall tour last month to challenge the extreme legislation being passed in the North Carolina General Assembly, including a recently approved measure that makes it harder to cast a ballot in the state. Organizers say that the town halls are designed to educate and mobilize voters for the upcoming 2024 election season.

July 19, 2023 - As the 2024 elections approach, Southern lawmakers are implementing discriminatory measures that undercut the ability of disabled voters across the region to have fair and equitable access to the ballot.

May 25, 2023 - The U.S. Supreme Court recently agreed to hear an appeal of a ruling that ordered South Carolina to redraw its congressional map after a lower court found it discriminated against Black voters. The ruling could leave communities of color with fewer protections against racial discrimination in elections.

March 30, 2023 - A coalition of advocacy groups recently released a report offering ideas on ways to protect and promote democracy in the state. Some of these proposals have since been incorporated into legislation that’s been introduced at the General Assembly.
