Bernice Reagon. singer, lecturer, is currently working towards her Ph.D. in oral history at Howard University. A former member of the Freedom Singers and Harambee Singers, she has been actively engaged in the collection of folk songs and traditions. (1974)
In 1973, as Southern Exposure began rolling off the presses, Bernice Johnson Reagon ā a veteran of the 1960sā Southern freedom movement ā helped found another institution of progressive change: the a capella singing group Sweet Honey in the Rock. Reagon has gone on to receive a PhD in history, and narrated the NPR series on civil rights, Will the Circle Be Unbroken. (1999)
