December 14, 2022 - Workers who handle customer service for Medicare and the Affordable Care Act marketplace are fighting to improve their lot at a call center in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, operated by Maximus, a Virginia-based government services contractor. Documentarian Jason Kerzinski recently visited with the workers to collect some of their stories.

May 24, 2022 - A U.S. House subcommittee recently held a hearing into ongoing efforts to limit discussion in public school classrooms on American history, race, and LGBTQ+ issues — and to punish teachers who broach those topics. Among those who testified was James Whitfield, a high school principal from North Texas who lost his job after sending students an email in response to killings of Black people by police and white vigilantes that acknowledged systemic racism and called education "a necessary conduit to get liberty and justice for all."

December 3, 2020 - Partly in response to the acclaim for Nikole Hannah-Jones's The 1619 Project on slavery's legacy in the U.S., President Trump recently signed an executive order that seeks to stifle federal agencies, contractors, and grant recipients from talking about systemic racism and sexism. Refusing to be silenced, the African American Policy Forum has launched an effort to overturn it.

April 25, 2019 - This Sexual Assault Awareness Month, #MeToo movement founder Tarana Burke launched a tour of historically black colleges to refocus the conversation around sexual assault to be more inclusive of Black women.

October 13, 2017 - Cassandra Welchlin with the Mississippi Low Income Childcare Initiative and the Mississippi Women's Economic Security Initiative talks about building power for vulnerable people in a hostile environment — and drawing hope from history and her children's future.

December 1, 2016 - This week the Southern Poverty Law Center issued two reports documenting how Trump's election has led to a spike in hate incidents, with over 200 taking place in the South alone.
