February 28, 2013 - Taxpayers for Common Sense has given a tongue-in-cheek "Golden Fleece Award" to the U.S. Department of Energy for speculatively spending hundreds of millions of tax dollars on small modular reactors being sought by the Tennessee Valley Authority and Savannah River Site.

May 3, 2007 - The Savannah River Ecology Laboratory (SREL) in Aiken, SC was established in 1951 by University of Georgia with funding from the Atomic Energy Commission. Its mission was to study the effects of the Savannah River Site nuclear weapons facility on the surrounding environment.
