May 22, 2019 - The Democrat-controlled N.C. Board of Elections has appointed a new executive director on a party-line vote. She'll be responsible for running two special congressional elections this year and implementing the state's new voter ID law, which is facing a lawsuit filed by voters who could be disenfranchised. 

October 21, 2016 - The deadly storm caused widespread flooding, displacing entire communities as voter registration deadlines loomed. In one Southern state, the governor voluntarily extended the deadline. But in three others — all competitive in the presidential election — Democrats and voting rights groups had to sue to win only modest extensions.

July 24, 2015 - This week during the federal trial over North Carolina's restrictive voting law, the state elections chief testified that more than 96,000 citizens would have been blocked from voting in 2012 if the law had been in place then. Meanwhile, another expert testified that there had been a total of two cases of voter fraud in the state from 2000 to 2014.

May 27, 2015 - A Facing South/Institute for Southern Studies analysis finds that disclosure of more than $7 million spent in North Carolina's 2014 state-level elections was slowed due to inconsistencies in state reporting rules — including details about more than $1.6 million that were hidden from the public until after the elections had passed.

August 1, 2014 - At the same time North Carolina legislators are cutting funding for programs due to a $1.5 billion budget shortfall caused by tax cuts, they want to pay for new State Board of Elections positions to investigate voter fraud -- despite ample evidence showing it's not a problem.

May 12, 2014 - Democracy North Carolina has found that the lawmakers appear to have duplicate voter registrations in other states. The watchdog group says the finding challenges the claim of some of the lawmakers' colleagues that double registrations are "proof positive" of voter fraud.

April 14, 2014 - A program launched by conservatives to root out alleged voter fraud has generated a lot of heated rhetoric but few cases of actual wrongdoing. North Carolina joined the program just as two other states dropped out amid concerns about unreliable data.
