December 3, 2013 - Pollution from waste pits at Duke Energy's Sutton power plant is killing over 900,000 fish and deforming thousands more each year in an eastern North Carolina lake popular for fishing and recreation. The state has known about the problem for years, but it's failed to take initiative to force a cleanup.

October 11, 2012 - The Southern Environmental Law Center has filed a complaint on behalf of four environmental advocacy groups asking state regulators to require cleanup of documented groundwater contamination from coal ash storage ponds at 14 power plants owned by Duke Energy and its Progress Energy subsidiary.
