Minutemen take aim at Alabama cities
The AP reports that the Minutemen, known for harassing Latino-looking people around the Mexican border, have expanded their mandate to urban settings in Alabama:
A citizens group calling itself the Alabama Minuteman Support Team has opened a new front in its war against illegal immigration -- Alabama's cities.
Mike Vanderboegh, spokesman for the Alabama Minutemen, said the group will begin surveillance activities in the state this week.
This comes on the heels of news from next-door Mississippi that undocumented workers continue to do the bulk of post-hurricane rebuilding -- without getting paid:
Immigrants who are doing much of the grunt work in the clean-up after Hurricane Katrina are often finding themselves working for free -- but not by choice.
Thousands of Hispanic immigrant laborers are being stiffed in Mississippi. Sometimes their bosses disappear. Sometimes they are promised payment at a later date.
